Privacy Policy

Restaurant Relief ("we", "us") provides online ordering, websites, reservations and related tools to independent restaurants and other local businesses in Canada. This policy explains what information we handle, why, and the choices you have. We follow Canada's Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act (PIPEDA).
Who this covers
- Customers who order, book a table or leave a review through a restaurant's Restaurant Relief page or website.
- Restaurant owners and staff who use our tools (order screen, menu builder, portal).
- Business contacts we talk with about our services.
Information we collect
- Order details: your name, phone number, email (if you give it), delivery address, what you ordered, special instructions, pickup or delivery time, and the amount paid.
- Reservations: your name, phone number, party size, date and time, and any notes.
- Reviews and feedback: the star rating and comments you choose to leave.
- Payment: card payments are processed by Stripe. We never see or store your full card number; we keep a record that the payment happened and its amount.
- Delivery tracking: when a restaurant's own driver delivers your order, the driver's phone shares its location while the delivery is active so you can follow it on a map.
- Restaurant accounts: names, email addresses and logins of restaurant staff, and the restaurant's menu, settings and business details.
- Business contacts: names, roles, phone numbers and emails of people at businesses we work with or contact, mostly from public sources such as business websites and directories. Calls with our team may be recorded and transcribed for quality and record-keeping.
- Technical information: sign-in cookies that keep you logged in, and small settings saved in your browser (such as dark mode or sound preferences).
How we use it
- To send your order or reservation to the restaurant and help them fulfil it.
- To text or email you about your order (confirmation, ready, on its way) and, if the restaurant has turned it on, to ask how your order was.
- To arrange delivery when the restaurant uses a delivery partner.
- To give restaurants their order history, sales reports and customer list for their own business.
- To run, secure, support and improve our services, and to meet legal and tax requirements.
We do not sell personal information, and we do not use your order information to advertise other businesses to you.
Who we share it with
- The restaurant you order from or book with. They receive your order or reservation details and may contact you about it. Each restaurant is responsible for how it uses its own customer information.
- Service providers that run parts of the service for us, only for that purpose: Stripe (payments), Twilio (text messages and calls), Resend (email), Supabase and Vercel (secure hosting and database), Google Maps (address lookup), and delivery partners such as DoorDash, Uber and Cartwheel (your name, phone and address so a courier can deliver).
- A restaurant's point-of-sale system (such as Square or Clover), when that restaurant connects it, so your order appears on their system.
- When the law requires it, or to protect people, our services or our rights.
Some of these providers store information outside Canada, including in the United States, where it may be accessible to authorities under local law.
How long we keep it
We keep order and reservation records for as long as the restaurant uses our service and as needed for accounting, tax and dispute purposes, then delete or anonymize them. Call recordings and business-contact notes are kept while they are useful for our working relationship.
Security
Information is encrypted in transit, access is limited to people who need it, and each restaurant can only see its own orders. No system is perfectly secure, but we work to protect your information and will notify you and the authorities as required if a breach puts you at risk.
Your choices and rights
- You can ask to see, correct or delete the personal information we hold about you.
- Reply STOP to any text message to stop texts from that number.
- You can unsubscribe from any marketing email using the link in it.
Email info@restaurantrelief.ca and we'll respond within 30 days. For questions about how a specific restaurant uses your information, you can also contact that restaurant directly. If you're not satisfied, you may contact the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada.
Children
Our services are not directed to children under 13, and we don't knowingly collect their information.
Changes
We may update this policy as our services change. The date at the top shows the latest version.
